The 36th Annual Tommy Ryan Memorial 5 Mile Road Race took place last Sunday February 16th, 2025.

We are once again so thankful that so many of you turned out to run our 5 Mile Race which is one of the classic races on the Cork Racing Calendar. There may be many new races added each year but we love the feedback that while it's challenging, this is an excellent racing course. It is a test of fitness and a change from the 'flat and fast' that are favourite buzz words in todays race advertisements. Variety after all is the spice of life!

Mark Walsh Leevale A.C. Michelle Kenny Leevale A.C.

Congratulations to our winners this year. Leevale A.C topped the podium this year with congratulations to Mark Walsh & Michelle Kenny as out first place finishers. The men's race was a tight battle with Mark making the break up the final hill but Sean Davin, and our last years winner John Meade talking 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Second finisher in our ladies race was also from Leevale A.C Emma Fitzpatrick and 3rd was Watergrasshill's Linda Kelly. A mention also to the winning club teams, St. Finbarr's winning 1st place in both the men's and the ladies categories, while the local team of Carrigaline AC were second home in the men's race and Watergrasshill were the second ladies team home this year.

In recent years all profits from the Tommy Ryan 5 mile have been donated to two local charities, Carrigaline Meals on Wheels and the Foróige Youth Diversion Project. This year we are delighted to announce that we will be able to make our biggest ever charity donation to these wonderful charities in the region of €1,000 per charity, to support the incredible work that they do.

Foróige have been present at our races over the past couple of years, managing our water station, and this year we had some runners from Foróige taking part in the race too. As they have now deservedly gained recognition for state funding, this will be our last year providing a charity donation to them. We sincerely thank them for all the help they have given to us on race day, they have been a pleasure to work with, and we have no doubt we will see them at our races again in the future. We look forward to adding a new Carrigaline charity to our race day profits for 2026.

I want to share an inspiring story form our 2025 race, on both age spectrums of our winning ladies tables you will see a the Kenny name. Michelle was our leading leady this year but her mother Eileen Kenny was our 1st F75 winner, and in an incredible time of 38:57. This time would equally have placed her as a category winner of those 20 years her junior, not to mention traveling all the way from Athlone to run our race! The Kenny ladies have truly inspired us this year.

To all of our Eagle AC members who turned out in force to act as organisers, registrars, stewards, lead car drivers, cyclists, photographers, M.C, caterers & bakers, we are grateful for all of your efforts and help. Thank you to our sponsors the Edge Spots Kinsale roundabout for their generous donation to our race. Thank you to Myrunresults.ie, and especially Lucy who did a super job on the chip timing as always, along with the Red Cross ambulance who were on hand for your safety. Finally thank you to all the participants of our 36th Carrigaline 5 mile, we appreciate your support and your entry fee makes a difference to our charity partners. We do hope to see you all again in 2026.
